our 2025:
2025 was the year we became a family of three (humans).
Our son, Josiah Wells Dyas, was born on July 13th at 3AM exactly. He came out at 9lbs 1oz, 22 inches long after 53 hours of labor and a hospital transfer. We found out later that Josiah had a nuchal hand (look it up) which likely caused the long labor. But it’s true what they say, you do forget what labor is like. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not ready to go through pregnancy again, but that’s mostly due to first trimester nausea. As I write this letter, Josiah is approaching 6-months and had his first solids two days before Christmas. I wish postpartum Soersha could see us now.
The rest of our year was not nearly as exciting, though it held many precious firsts and lasts. We had a baby moon in San Diego and my sister in-law threw us the sweetest cowboy-themed baby shower. We had a handful of visitors stay with us after Josiah was born and we made a few long road trips up north to visit family. Driving 16+ hours with an infant required some creative teamwork when it came to changing diapers in a packed car while it rained outside.
Davey is still working with Summit Line Construction and was promoted to Business Operations Manager this fall. He is hopeful that he will win his company’s fantasy football league this year - this week is the championship and things are looking promising. He also got into rebinding books and rebound a Jack London Collection just before Josiah was born. For Christmas this year, I designed a cover of his favorite childhood book, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and he is excited to get to it in January.
I spent the first half of this year writing and querying literary agents for my first book. While no agents ultimately moved forward with it, I got some good feedback and decided to start on my next book to keep growing my writing skills. It has been both heartbreaking and relieving to move onto something new. I also filmed a handful of weddings, all after Josiah was born, and it felt good to stretch that muscle again.
Other noteworthy points: our favorite book this year was Red Rising by Pierce Brown. We are both still very much into chess. My commitment level, you ask? I didn’t let any of my Chess app games lapse, even in 2+ days of labor. Cooper (our dog) turned six this year and has been very respectful of Josiah’s space, though Josiah has recently grown interested in petting him and Cooper doesn’t quite seem to know what to think yet.
People like to ask us how parenthood is, if it’s what we expected, what our favorite part is, etc. And our answer to that has remained the same – we knew we would love Josiah, but we didn’t expect to like him as much as we do. Other parents used to try to explain what it was like to love their child, which mostly consisted of explanations like, “you don’t get it until you do.” But that’s exactly where we’re at. The joy that Josiah brings isn’t comparable to anything we have ever experienced, and the craziest part is that that’s just a fraction of how God feels about us.
We are beyond excited to bring the little guy with us into the new year.

Thanks for reading and all our love,
Davey & Soersha & Josiah
